The QYO team wanted to incorporate and celebrate the indigenous heritage of this land through the uniform whilst performing internationally. I knew the perfect artist for the collaboration. Delvene Cockatoo-Collins.

I contacted Delvene immediately with excitement. I knew she would create beautiful artwork for the uniform.

She presented me with her artwork titled ‘from Pulan to Mulgumpin’ meaning from Amity to Moreton. "Once so close our people could communicate with each other. "

"'Pulan to Mulgumpin' represents the view (travel) from Amity on Stradbroke island to Moreton island. You can see the two landforms and the water in between." I wanted those beautiful Australian animals to be in the front panel. It was a little challenging for us and our team to make sure all animals are positioned correctly in all sizes. I also needed to take into account the way the performers would move during their performances.

I visited the old museum last Saturday and watched their rehearsal before they performed at QPAC. When I saw them together in the uniform, it made me emotional.

As I watched the orchestra perform in their new uniforms, I couldn't help but feel a deep sense of pride and gratitude. Our collaboration with Delvene had not only created a beautiful visual on stage, but it had also woven the rich tapestry of Indigenous heritage into every movement.

Seeing these talented young musicians on the stage, showcasing their passion and talent while honouring the land they called home, I realized that art and culture could bridge the gaps between us and make the world a more harmonious place.

My hope is for these young artists to truly shine as they face the future.

One Sunday afternoon, I had a chat with Hannah Macklin @hannahmacklin.yo, a singer-songwriter from Brisbane. I've never met her before and didn't know much about her personality.

We got connected through Hannah's song, "Mono no Aware" (Sense of Impermanence), which sparked our conversation. As we talked, her soft-spoken manner revealed her excitement when discussing Japanese culture.
Hannah's gentle yet strong and confident presence made me think of a modern-day ninja. I had a clear image in my mind and started sketching a ninja-inspired design right away.

It had a cool street style while still keeping a feminine touch. We up-cycled a vintage kimono by turning it inside out to reveal a striking pattern, shortened it, and added some ties. Later in the week, we met to style Hannah in this transformed kimono, and it looked beautiful on her. If you're in the Brisbane area, she will be performing at the upcoming Brisbane International Jazz Festival.

We combined this look with our new umbrellas from Japan, to act as our katana and add a pop of colour.

Can you picture yourself in this short kimono jacket? Are you interested in these ninja pants?

Here is a photo of our small family at archstoneventura, taken at our South Brisbane studio. Our retail members are not in this image today.
Each of us come from different countries and create something unique every day. Looking at our image here, I just started to smile.  Each of us have strengths and weaknesses but when we are together our creation is big and different.
These one off vintage kimonos were uniquely hand printed in Arnhem Land.
Blending new and old cultures with old histories to create something uniquely new with our hands and then pass them to you to add another unique element by you is what we do.
Ola arrived in Australia from Ukraine one year ago. She never had experience in the fashion industry experience before. She is now working with us and in charge of our online store. Her English is not quite perfect but we found a way to communicate with her using google translate with big hand gestures.
I found nothing impossible here.
My philosophy at archstoneventura is to offer you more than what you expect. It's Japanese customer service. After 25 years since I started archstoneventura, we are still here working to find the best customer services for you.

It's a harmonious blending that bridges generations, breathing new life into age-old practices. Through shared artistry and thoughtful design, these cultures come together, not as a clash, but as a testament to the enduring spirit of creativity and the enduring legacy of traditions. It's a testament to the power of collaboration to weave a vibrant tapestry where the threads of heritage and innovation intertwine, leaving a colourful legacy for generations to come.

This is my version of KIN TSUGI creation.
KIN TSUGI, originating in the 15th century, tells a tale of transforming precious pottery fragments into new art by adorning them with gold.

In the same spirit, I find beauty in the fusion of diverse cultures, nationalities, generations, and artistic forms.

Each carefully chosen vintage kimono piece, uniquely hand-printed with Australian native flora from Arnhem Land.

Here, you see Charlie and my son wearing beautiful overdyed vintage kimonos. It's not the traditional path, but a fresh fusion of creativity.

They are unique, artistic and individual women who know about themselves.

Interesting thing is that they have been bringing their children, friends, and/or partners to our boutiques and we have now connected with our customers' families. Those families are now telling us their stories with archstoneventura.

I love those stories that they tell us.

Many of those old archstoneventura clothes have been passed to the next generation or to their friends and still in great condition.
All of us have changed our lifestyles and also our body shapes over the 20+ years. So we often upcycle and mend those clothes to suit their current needs.

So our production team at South Brisbane have been working on improving our patterns and designs to suit our customers and their extended family

I believe archstoneventura suits a wide variety of demographics and age groups and sex.
If you ever see me or our team members tell us your story with archstoneventura. Our possibilities are unlimited.

We are no longer just a label for women of a certain age, we are branching out to the younger generation - no matter what their age or gender.

Here in the picture is my high school son in archstoneventura clothes. After so many years, my children are finally starting to show interest in archstoneventura!

There were so many adjustments for our business to go through during that period.
We closed our boutique in Melbourne and opened a pop up store in the Indooroopilly Shopping centre.

It was supposed to be a temporary space but we met so many new customers in the Indooroopilly boutique and we ended up staying there for three years. But it is time to move again.

Many of our customers live in Westend and suggested we open a store there, it looks like there are great opportunities for us to explore on that side of town..
So stay tuned, it looks like there are more changes for us this year.

In Buddhism, when things happen, there is always a hidden reason behind those events.
As for losing our current Indooroopilly store, I wonder what else is possible, what new direction is coming up for archstoneventura.

Here I can imagine something exciting happening that we haven't seen yet.
Yesterday we were offered another space in the Indooroopilly Shopping Centre.
So we will be there for a little longer in a new location as of next week.

Come and visit us at our new Indooroopilly boutique. We will be setting up for the new store tomorrow (Monday 17th July).
Hopefully from this Tuesday we will be at our new place (in front of Myer) and it will be the beginning of our new chapter.

This year, it seems there are more changes and adjustments for us. But I am sure we will go through it and have more stories to tell.]]>

We originally had envisioned a different skirt for styling, but it wasn’t quite right. When we styled, it lacked essence.

After rushing in the final few moments, I pulled out this khaki silk peaking through the mountains of sample racks. The relic emerged, it was the Napoleon Six Dress, from many, many years ago.

Josh and I grabbed each end and pinned, scrunched and layered to our hearts content creating the volume and shape we needed to complete the look.

Silk cascading, dancing through the air, endless movement as the light reflected off the fabric. It reminds me how these pieces can be timeless and forever live on no matter how much time seems to pass me. Handling and controlling the 8 metres of silk organza for each skirt was challenging. But it was so beautiful when all the layers played in different shades.

One day, I would love to come up with a new version of this skirt. This archive piece entwined with our modern day Maddox Top was the perfect pairing of old and new. What archstoneventura pieces in your collection do you still wear? Do you have any memorable clothes or ensembles that still resonate with you?

Over the past 25 years, I have been working with many unique creators at archstoneventura.
Each of us has a different cultural backgrounds and uniqueness.
When we create, so many different thoughts and ideas are thrown up in the air and archstoneventura is able to absorb and unify those energies.

I have been working with some of them for almost 25 years.
We know each other so well and are friends as well as colleagues.
Sometimes our ideas clash and we argue and debate, but I love the process.
Often the garments and images turn out very differently to what I originally expected.

I hope you enjoy the end results as much as we do creating them.

It is so special for me to make a wedding dress for someone that I have known for such a long time.

She lives in the UK now and the wedding ceremony will be held over there. All the bride's family and friends from Brisbane are unfortunately unable to attend due to global travel restrictions.

So, on the wedding dress completion day, I invited the bride's mother Sue (who lives in Brisbane) to see the dress before we send to the UK next Monday.

The original idea was to take a few images of her mum and the dress, and then share them with the bride and her family.

At my studio last Friday, we were a bit busy finishing up the dress before the bride's mum arrived.

When Sue came upstairs to where my sample room is, she took careful steps, one by one, it was probably that she was going to see the bride in her mind. I could see her coming upstairs holding her emotions.

As soon as she saw the dress, I became emotional.

I truly believe that she saw her daughter in the dress.

When I saw her face, It really reminded me of my mother. Most likely that is what my mum would have done in that situation.

It took a while for her to come close to the dress, she was looking at it for a few moments. I invited her to see the dress closely.

She slowly and carefully touched the dress, as though she was nervous about it, almost like holding a new born baby.

I really wonder if all memories of her beautiful daughter's childhood, her teenage years with her sister and all of their family lives went through her mind at that time - just like in an old film.

I really hope that we could capture the moments with her and the dress, we can send the photos to the bride with the dress on Monday, along with her mum's love.

Located on Brisbane's south side, in the quiet suburb of Tennyson our thoughts and hands are mixed together. In the last 6 months, we have all been working really hard to complete our Autumn Winter 2023 collection.

In the last 25 years we have always had a unique mix of cultures. Maybe because I myself am Japanese, our team members have always been quite diverse.

Not only Japanese and Australian, we have Chinese, Vietnamese, Russian, Ukraine and African at the moment. So many languages and cultures are mixed at archstoneventura.

There are sometimes challenges, especially with language, but we have more fun and excitement at archstoneventura. Everyday is different.

I hope you can see our unique touch through our collection.
This week, we have just finished showing our collection in LA.

Proudly displaying the wonderful multi-culture of Australia to the far side of the world.

What are your cultural roots? Do they shine through at your work place?

Lately I have been working on some new designs for the Queensland Youth Orchestra. #queenslandyouthorchestra
This is the first time I am working with young musicians. I myself have young teens so I am so excited to come up with something unique and comfortable for them to perform in as a team. It's a little challenging for one design to fit all, both males and females in different sizes.
It has to be elegant and also a little funky I would think.
What kind of elements can you think of for those young people to wear on stage?
What are the elements you think we should have for international performers from Australia?
I would love to hear your thoughts on it.
Soon I will complete the design and start making them.
I am so excited to share the progress.
Do you know anyone in this orchestra?

Do you remember Priscilla from 10 years ago?

We created a Market Day at my Woolloongabba studio one Saturday and organised a fundraising party to send her to the 2012 Paralympics in London for her art exhibition.

Instead of hiding her prosthetic leg, she made it as a statement art piece.
Her unique idea of creating art pieces and exhibiting them was a sensational movement. We all gain so much courage and strength from her beautiful smile and positive action to share her story internationally. Our Astro pants were her staple pants originally but since Priscilla started to show off her beautiful artistic prosthetic leg, she started to wear skirts more often.

Priscilla and I reconnected recently and I met her partner Lucy at Tennyson this time. When I saw Priscilla after 10 years all my emotions came out.
I wanted to hear all about her life, and her exhibition in London 2012 during the paralympics as I never had a chance to hear.

Her beautiful smile was the same as 10 years ago. Priscilla wanted to show her new special prosthetic leg for her black wedding dress that she chose.
It was so special for me to create this piece for her wedding.
I am very happy to share this story with you all, the photos are amazing!
Congratulations Priscilla and Lucy .. I hope you have a beautiful life together..❤️

Over the last 20 years I have met many beautiful women who have fought with cancer and other illnesses. We often meet customers who are going through illness and often listen to their stories and help to style them together

As we age, we all go through some kind of physical challenges and become more aware of the importance of our health. But also realise that we are not defined by our diagnosis.

Dogstar family in Pink Eclose Apron

As always, I want to continue to support and be there for those facing hardships in the archstoneventura community. I would like to honour these strong-willed individuals, with something special from archstoneventura.

We will be donating a percentage from all sales of our PINK Eclose apron to the Australian Cancer Foundation.

Would you be interested in getting behind this cause? We get to look fantastic as well as supporting our community at the same time.

This is my small team at my Tennyson studio in Brisbane. In order to make this one shirt last for a lifetime, we select the highest grade quality cotton fabric, we rigorously test the fabric and make the perfect pattern that makes this shirt so comfortable yet durable. It takes numerous samples to make sure that our shirts fit perfectly.

Using my Japanese pattern techniques, we make our shirts look as sharp on the body as possible and easy to coordinate with other pieces.

We are only a small team, but we strive to understand your body movement, body shape and lifestyle, it helps us tailor our garments to mould and grow with you.

Here is one shirt that will last for a long time, not just the quality, but stylistically as well. We put a little bit of our heart and soul in every piece.

I was asked to make a wedding dress for my customer a few months ago.
The main request from my customer was a wedding dress that is understated yet elegant. It was also important to her that the dress is able to be re-wearable again after the wedding day. I personally think it's a great idea.

We chose a linen ensemble for the wedding dress. The short bolero jacket which has a long draped tail is complimented with embroidery. We selected an antique white for the dress. I really love the idea of wearing the dress again and again for a long time, reminding the wearer of the very special day. I can even shorten the length or change the design if it is desired at a later stage.

I really enjoyed making this dress and wanted to share the ideas of a repurposed wedding dress. Congratulations Heather from myself and my team on your wedding. I hope that you will be reminded of that magical day each and every time you wear these pieces.

We had many things in common and started to talk about our creations and old materials.

Recently I purchased a hat from Jennifer and started to play with it.

My BORO stitch cloth worked beautifully with this hat.

I started to design my Autumn/Winter collection based on this hat.

It has a Japanese feel to it. I have been working on this BORO stitch for nearly 2 years now.

Memory of my grandma.

BORO indicates "POOR" in Japan. Old damaged clothes are patched and stitched back together.

I hated to wear any BORO stitched clothes my grandma repaired when I was a kid.

There are not many BORO things in Japan these days. People just replace it with something new.

Based on this BORO hat, I am making a collection for this AUTUMN/WINTER.

This is one of my pieces from this week.

I often get excited with the way that ideas and creations can be mixed with others and my journey is always evolving and changing into something new.

I love it when my customers show me how they wear and style archstoneventura pieces for themselves.
They sometimes wear upside down, back to front, they pin the hems or tuck the volume of the skirt to mold and create the shapes to suit their body type and their personality.
It's just like shaping pottery, or layering paint on a canvas.
The textures and colours of the clothes mix with their body shapes and my customers just love to finish the final look.
Sometimes it's so unique I can't recognise that they are archstoneventura pieces.
One day I was waiting for a pedestrian at a traffic light, and one of my customers walked past me.
Her unique styling caught my eye and then I quickly realised that she was wearing one of our old archstoneventura piece upside down!
It's so different from how I originally designed it, I could hardly recognise it.
I love the way I am providing archstoneventura pieces to my customers, but my styling goes only half way. They are the main creators who change, mold and style the looks for their individuality.
It's a collaboration between my customers and I, and it's the only one in the world.

They have been archstoneventura clothing since the beginning. archstoneventura garments are not easy to make. It often takes time for them to understand how to construct the pieces. Over the last 20 years that we have been working together, they became like my family. Their children have grown up over time.

To me it is their hands that created and supported archstoneventura. Each garment has been carefully made by them and finished beautifully, their thoughts were sewn with each stitch. I just wanted to introduce the creators behind the beautiful archstoneventura pieces.

I had been looking for weeks on ebay, gumtree and other online marketplaces.
It was such a coincidence that the sewing machine that I have been looking for was from my friend Brenda.
Or was it meant to be?
My grandma used to have one of these SINGER foot operated sewing machines ages ago. I remember the sound of the foot going up and down rhythmically when I was a child.
My grandma's machine is not as fancy as this one but I remember the beautiful metal logo of SINGER on the foot piece.
I don't know how many clothes she made and mended when she was young.
This one is going to be in my Indooroopilly shopping center store for a little while. One day I will try and see if I can sew something with this machine.

Don't they look great on it?
These aprons are protecting their clothes from our cutting table.
They have so much passion and energy!
Some of their ideas may seem crazy but that makes archstoneventura exciting.
I love working with them and creating something new.
I think you will notice changes in our creations and especially on social media, which I am not good at.
Come and say hello to them at our Tennyson studio.

They are still learning a lot of things but they really have great energy and passion, and as we know, some things like these, cannot be learned.

This is a little sweet moment in the day of Paola Milani, one of my old friends and a beautiful artist based in Queensland.

I have known her longer than archstoneventura has been around.

As soon as I stepped into her room, it was like being in another world, simple and quiet.

Time was running differently from the outside world.

I fell in love with Paola’s simple and slow living, her thoughts of value in life and passion about connecting to the Australian nature inspire me.

There are Australian native dry flowers on her desk. Her colour pallet is filled with the colours of memories.

This time she was painting the petals with squeezed lemon juice. Her magic touch...

She was slowly and carefully brushing along the strokes of the bush petals on the card.. almost remembering the time she spent with her beloved family and friends this year.

In our busy day we can forget the purpose of simple gifts and cards. We are often busy with computers and mobile phone, but the convenience of these devices can’t possibly replace hand made things.

The slow process of making something by hand makes us think of the individual person and wish them love.
